Play it cool …

Summer time … and the living ain’t easy … it’s just getting hotter!

The answer: a different sort of lunch break. One bus stop, and I’m floating in deliciously cool water in the shadow of a large willow.

I’m in Munich‘s Isar river as it rushes down from the Tyrolean Alps through the city.

Its banks form a beautiful park. People walk their dogs, have picnics and barbecues, run, walk, play football, sunbathe, ride their bikes, have yoga classes, you name it.

But the best thing is a refreshing dip. If you dare to brave the fast-flowing current, as I do, and if you own a watertight bag, you can swim as far as you like.

Definitely the most refreshing way to spend an hour or so, enjoying this sparkling summer gem in the centre of Munich.

A recent Guardian article by Benjamin David, the man who swims to work in the Isar and is becoming famous for it

I think people surf near the weir too. Cool river in many ways.
