View from a Parisian roof

You would never guess that this is Paris. It is a view of the skyscrapers towards La Defense taken from the roof terrace of an ultra-modern art gallery in the Bois de Boulogne. Opened five years ago, the Fondation Louis Vuitton puts on exhibitions and events in its 11 galleries.

Frank Gehry, the architect of the Guggenheim in Bilbao, designed the Fondation for a very limited space that used to be the site of a bowling alley. From this rectangle rises the building like a cruise ship, resting in shallow water and enveloped by sheets of glass like billowing sails. A must see when next in Paris.
