Textile art on show in Margate now

The exhibition featuring textile art by women artists that has just opened in Margate, has been reviewed in a major newspaper. Mark Hudson at The Telegraph gives it four stars in a piece entitled “Material benefits of crafty women”.

I take this as a further step for textile art to move closer to the mainstream – where it deserves to be.

“Entangled: Threads & Making” is on until 7 May at the Turner Contemporary in Margate and entry is free.

I shall be making my way to the coast soon to see pieces by 40 female artists made during the past 100 years, intending to reflect on Mark Hudson’s remark that there exists a “notion of women artists being absorbed in the hands-on exploration of materials and processes, while profligate male artists, it is argued, are concerned principally with ideas …”
